Ilkin Rustamzada, a political activist, was jailed over three years ago for organising rallies protesting violence in the army via social media. In jail, he has been subject to cruel and degrading treatment. His ongoing imprisonment is unacceptable – and as Azerbaijan moves to forge closer ties with the EU – it’s time for Europe to take meaningful action to oblige the government of Azerbaijan to uphold its human rights commitments and release all political prisoners.
Our friends International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR) are currently running a campaign in support of Ilkin Rustamzada and all other political prisoners in Azerbaijan. You can join in by visiting their page here, and calling on Azerbaijan to #FreeIlkin
