CURRENT STATUS: In detention, pending trial
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The law enforcement authorities of Azerbaijan have merged the criminal case against Faiq Amirov with the case of another PFPA activist, Fuad Ahmadli, who faces trumped-up charges of “abuse of official powers” and “violation of legislation on operative and search activity”. Ahmadli was arrested on the street in Baku on August 18, 2016 by the State Security Service who then searched his apartment. Illegal religious literature, CDs, printed speeches by Fetullah Gülen, and documents on members of the so-called Gülen community were allegedly found among Ahmadli’s personal belongings.
